Gourd: Kawarazaki Gonjuro I, 1863 - Handsome portrait of Kawarazaki Gonjuro I from a series pairing kabuki actors with six selected flowers. He a thin gray and white print kimono through which his upper body tattoo of peonies is visible. An inset at upper left depicts gourd and vine, and the red and white plaid background creates a striking graphic backdrop for the figure. An interesting design.
