The Kyoho Era (1716 - 1736) - Lovely triptych from a series depicting beauties from different historical periods. Here, a beauty from the Kyoho era bites on a roll of tissues as she ties a light pink sash around her waist. Her long hair is brushed straight back over her shoulders, adorned with a single large lacquer comb featuring a scene of the mythological underwater Dragon Palace. She looks over her shoulder with a keen expression as travelers pass by in the street behind her. Porters carry a palanquin at left, followed by a yakko or low ranking servant carrying a lantern and wearing a kimono with a distinctive striped collar. A beautiful design with the wonderfully detailed large figure dominating the composition. Includes delicate burnishing on the hair.
