Hino Suketoshi Visits Shinozuka and Her Daughter on a Snowy Night, 1889

Comments - Intriguing winter scene of the samurai paying a visit to Shinozuka and her daughter in a country house on a snowy night. The young warrior sits on the porch, still wearing his straw raincoat and carrying a wooden chest on his back. Shinozuka stands beside him in the snow, holding a flaming torch and looking back over her shoulder with a worried expression to see if her son was followed. Inside, her daughter offers him a tray with a cup of tea as she kneels beside a spinning wheel. An interesting subject with a beautifully detailed natural setting. Includes embossing on the white kimono trim and fine bokashi shading in the background.

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28 1/2" + margins as shown
