Series; Snow, Moon, and Flower for the Minamoto and Taira

Sailing by Moonlight, 1891 - Beautiful scene of a Heian era beauty enjoying a boat ride at Miyajima. She smiles as she looks back at a royal ship, a small hand drum tucked between her shoulder and neck. A young attendant holds an elegant umbrella trimmed with ruffles and tassels over her head, another girl kneeling beside her. A line of geese is seen in silhouette against the softly glowing full moon, the reflection shimmering on the gently rippling surface below, while the torii gate of the shrine rises above the water at left. A lovely design, beautifully colored and detailed with soft shading in the sky and water.
