Comments - Interesting kabuki double portrait from the tale of the young boy, Tamiya Botaro whose father was murdered by his fencing master. Botaro vowed to avenge his father's death, but the fencing master imprisoned him, planning to kill the child as well. After his faithful nurse did penance in an icy waterfall, praying for his release, the boy was freed. Here, he looks up with a wary expression as a woman grins at him, a toothbrush in hand. She looks slyly to the side a she leans forward. The actors are Ichimura Uzaemon XIII as Tamiya Botaro and Bando Shuka I as the wife of Matazo. Nicely composed with a handsome setting. Includes embossing on one end of the toothbrush.
