Courtesan in a Chrysanthemum Kimono Kakemono

Comments - Lovely kakemono or vertical diptych of a courtesan wearing a kimono decorated with chrysanthemums over a tie-dyed red under robe, tied with a geometric print obi. She smiles happily as she holds her sleeve to her chin, a roll of tissues extending beyond the edge of the fabric. Her hair is pulled back into a bun adorned with a pink ribbon, two large combs, and many decorative hairpins featuring the same crest that appears on her sleeve. A charming design from a rarely seen Edo era artist, nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono collar.

Artist - Ryukoku (active circa 1801 - 1829)

Image Size - 29 1/8" x 9 3/4" + margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels, top panel backed with paper. Tiny losses and slight thinning at edges, a few small holes, repaired. Creasing, slight toning and soiling, slight rubbing at edge. Please see photos for details.
