Ichikawa Sadanji as Torazo, 1877

Comments - Interesting kabuki portrait of Ichikawa Sadanji as Torazo in a play at the Shintomiza or Shintomi Theater, sitting along the shore. He looks over his shoulder with an angry scowl, one hand resting against his chin and the other holding a shell. A lock and chain around his waist indicate that he is a prisoner, and he wears a rust colored robe with writing on the collar. A paddlewheel steamship can be seen on the water in the distance. A nice expressive figure with fine bokashi shading in the background.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 3/8"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. Slight soiling and creasing, slight rubbing at corners. Please see photos for details.
