Comments - Handsome kabuki triptych showing the sworn enemies Nagoya Sanza and Fuwa Banzaemon accidentally running into each other in the Yoshiwara one night. At left, Sanza worriedly as he recognizes Banzaemon. He wears a tan coat and a blue kimono with his trademark pattern of swallows flying in rain. At right, Banzaemon glares back at him as he lifts the edge of his hat, a tight-lipped frown on his face. Between them, a courtesan sits on a bench holding an ornate pipe. She wears a coat patterned with a lion and peonies over a red tie-dyed kimono border trimmed with a blue-green floral print and tied with a black obi featuring waterwheels. Teahouses in shadow line the street behind them, red paper lanterns hanging from the eaves. A great design, nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono trim and fine bokashi shading in the evening sky.
