A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Monk Visiting a Couple, 1849 - Interesting scene from the play "Onnagori goshiki no Hanakago" of a monk paying a visit to a couple. He leans forward on a walking stick, wearing a black robe and a cloth headdress patterned with cranes, which curiously appears to have pointed ears. At right, the beauty grins as she looks to the side, holding her sleeve to her chest. Her companion smiles as he fans himself, crouching behind her. In the foreground, what appears to be a mouse or rat trap seems to hold a hank of hair tied in red cloth. From left, the actors are Nakamura Utaemon IV, Nakamura Fukusuke I, and Bando Shuka I. Nice expression figures.

Artist - Kuniyoshi (1797 - 1861)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 19 3/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels. Remnants of paper hinge mounts on reverse at top corners. Soiling, a few creases and stains. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
