A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction

Scene from Ichi-no-Tani, circa 1849 - Interesting kabuki scene from a play about the Battle of Ichi-no-Tani between the forces of the Taira and Minamoto. At left, the Minamoto samurai Okabe Rokuyata Tadazumi watches in alarm as Tagobei flies through the air at top center. At right, the Taira warrior Satsuma no kami Taira no Tadanori looks up with a scowl. Rugged rocks line a river behind them, the view framed by a blossoming cherry tree. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Danjuro VIII, Ichikawa Gangyoku, and Ichikawa Kodanji IV. A handsome design in an unusual horizontal format for a kabuki subject.
