Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura: Night Attack, 1888 by Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura: Night Attack, 1888

Comments - Great kabuki scene from the classic play "Yoshistune Senbon Zakura" of a night attack on a mansion. At lower left, the samurai Tadanobu crouches on one knee holding a fox skin over his shoulder. He wears a red kimono patterned with Buddhist wheels and trimmed with fringe. The warrior at right leans forward with an angry expression, holding a spear behind his back. He wears a gray robe over a suit of armor, his hair sticking up wildly atop his head. From left, the actors are Ichikawa Danjuro and Nakamura Shikan. A striking design with a blossoming cherry tree framing the night sky and the posts of the mansion's verandah.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 8 3/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Backed with paper. A few small losses at edge, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases at edges. Please see photos for details.
