Morning Sun

Series; Allusions to the Seven Stars, 1878

Morning Sun - Handsome image of an upper-class beauty and an attendant on a verandah as an enormous red sun rises in the background, radiating a pink glow and rays of light across the sky. The beauty wears a flowing purple robe over a white kimono tucked into red hakama pants, and she carries a folding fan with a design of clouds and leaves. Her long hair is combed smoothly back and down over her shoulders, adorned with an unusual headdress, and she looks serenely ahead. The attendant kneels holding out an offering tray with both hands. Fine reed blinds are rolled up overhead, and a pine tree frames the view. An attractive design from a rarely seen Yoshitoshi beauty series.

Artist - Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)

Image Size - 13 3/4" x 9 1/4"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Horizontal fold. Slight toning and soiling, a few wrinkles. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
