Fujiwara of the Tsuruya of Kyo-machi Itchome in the Shin-Yoshiwara

Comments - Charming portrait of the courtesan Fujiwara of the Tsuruya of Kyo-machi Itchome in the Shin-Yoshiwara accompanied by a kamuro or child apprentice as she visits a chrysanthemum garden. She smiles happily as she looks over her shoulder, wearing a kimono patterned with irises and wooden walkways over a tie-dyed under robe tied with a geometric print obi. A checked roof shelters the blossoming flowers, some of which have paper slips tied to them. An attractive design, detailed with embossing on the tie-dyed robe, and the wooden board and water on the outer kimono. The British Museum has this image in its collection.
