by Ryukoku (active circa 1801 - 1829)
Comments - Lovely kakemono or vertical diptych of a courtesan wearing a kimono decorated with chrysanthemums over a tie-dyed red under robe, tied with a geometric print obi. She smiles happily as she holds her sleeve to her chin, a roll of tissues extending beyond the edge of the fabric. Her hair is pulled back into a bun adorned with a pink ribbon, two large combs, and many decorative hairpins featuring the same crest that appears on her sleeve. A charming design from a rarely seen Edo era artist, nicely detailed with embossing on the white kimono collar.
