Comments - Beautiful scene of Prince Genji and his companions gathered in an elegant interior. The nobleman kneels at left, next to a young prince sitting on a cushion surrounded by a folding screen decorated with peonies. At lower left, two girls carry in a low table, while a beauty at top center holds a covered teacup on a stand. At right, a matron kneels in a separate room, smiling sweetly as she looks down. Beautiful color and detail in this attractive design. Includes embossing on Genji's white kimono, pants, and the daisies on his coat, embossing on the matron's white kimono, and burnishing on the black kimono and the large black lacquer chest in the center of the room. The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, has this image in its collection.
