Actor Presentation at Theater, 1879

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of an actor making a presentation to the audience, a formal stage announcement called a "kojo." His fellow actors surround him, bowing respectfully, but he grimaces angrily as he gestures with his fan. The fellow in the center at right appears worried, while some of the other actors exchange frowns. Plaques with names run across the top of the page, the red background framed by plum blossoms with small blue slips attached to them. An intriguing subject with expressive figures.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14 1/4" x 28 1/4" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Horizontal fold in center panel. A few small losses at edges, repaired. Slight creasing and soiling, a few spots. Please see photos for details.
