Original Kunichika (1835 - 1900) Japanese Woodblock Print
Angry Man, 1867

Comments - Great kabuki portrait of a man grimacing angrily as he waves his hat above his head. He wears a plaid kimono over a light blue robe with a tie-dyed pattern in yellow, his hair pulled back into a thick topknot with bushy ends. Snow falls through the gray winter sky, blanketing the foliage on either side of him. The title cartouche at upper right is flanked with a folding fan detailed with embossed lines. An expressive figure, nicely detailed with burnishing on the black areas of the kimono.

Artist - Kunichika (1835 - 1900)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/2" + left margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight separation and thinning along vertical fold at left edge, repaired. Slight soiling, a few spots. Please see photos for details.
