Meiji Emperor and Empress at the Imperial Palace, 1877

Comments - Handsome scene of the Meiji Emperor and Empress in the elegant interior of the Imperial Palace. They sit on a platform at top center, the emperor dressed in a military uniform while his wife wears a blue kimono over red hakama pants, and an elegant headdress. Just below, a lady-in-waiting kneels behind a young prince, who wears a dragon print robe with a tall pleated collar. A beauty at left cradles a baby to her chest, smiling happily. An intricately patterned carpet covered the floor, and folding screens line the walls, with a large vase at right containing an arrangement of peonies and flowering branches. Nicely detailed with vibrant color, burnishing in the black lacquer edge of the platform, and embossing on the white kimono collars.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 13 7/8" x 28" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. Vertical folds. Slight soiling, a few creases and stains. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
