Fuchu: Nicho-machi

Series; Cutout Pictures of the Tokaido Road

Matsumoto-Do Reprints - This handsome reprint was published by Matsumoto-Do of Tokyo. Not much is known about this publisher. They printed original shin-hanga woodblocks by artists such as Yoshimune Arai, as well as fine quality reprints of works by ukiyo-e masters such as Hiroshige and Kuniyoshi. They appear to have been active circa 1920s - 1940s. These small format designs are beautifully carved and printed with fine line work and soft bokashi shading. Each features a paper label on the reverse with the publisher's name and a stock number. This is the first time we've seen prints by Matsumoto-Do.

Artist - Hiroshige (1797 - 1858)

Image Size - 5 1/2" x 3 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Paper label on reverse. Please see photos for details. Nice overall.
