Evening View of the Red Gate (Akamon) of the University of Tokyo, 1948

Comments - Lovely view of the Red Gate or Akamon of the University of Tokyo on a wintery day. A single figure bundled in a black coat and purple came makes his way along the plaza at left, dwarfed by the size of the large structure. Bare branches fill the horizon against a sky softly shaded from peach to blue gray. An attractive design by this rarely seen artist, who studied painting at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts and exhibited regularly in Japan. Morita Sai was appointed a member of the Japan Art Academy in 1975.

Artist - Morita Sai (1898 - 1993)

Image Size - 11" x 13 3/4" + margins as shown
