Comments - Lovely triptych depicting a group of upper-class ladies at leisure, enjoying a variety of activities. At bottom center, a young woman performs a tea ceremony, carefully opening a tea caddy to mix the tea, all the necessary tools and equipment spread out before her. At left, a kneeling beauty crochets yarn, a Western technique that gained popularity during the Meiji era. The woman behind her paints a scene of a crane beneath a pine tree, bowls of pigment on the floor nearby. The three other women read a book, write a poem, and arrange flowers. Beautiful color and detail in the elegant kimono fabrics and household furnishings, with touches of embossing on the white kimono collars.
