Wedding Ceremony, 1896 - An incredible five-panel print from Chikanobu's famous "Inner Chiyoda Palace" series. In this design, a young nobleman and his consort are shown having a ceremonial wedding meal, attended by many ladies-in-waiting. A low table between the pair is set with symbols of longevity and good luck for the couple's future, including a bonsai pine tree and a crane. Lovely embossed patterns on the white kimono and collars of the attendants, and touches of burnishing. A wonderful Chikanobu design, beautifully detailed.
