Portraits of the Rulers of the Tokugawa Clan, 1881

Comments - Handsome triptych featuring portraits of the fifteen Tokugawa Shoguns, with the first Shogun Ieyasu seated at top center wearing a black robe and court cap. He is surrounded by young and old samurai, in a variety of casual and formal dress. At lower left, the fifth Shogun Tsunayoshi, known as the "Dog Shogun," sits on a cushion stroking a white dog. At upper right, a young boy practices riding on a saddle across a wooden horse. Red draperies hang overhead, and a text block at upper right lists the rulers. Beautifully detailed with a subtle burnished pattern in the black robes, court caps, and cushion. A great subject for samurai enthusiasts.

Artist - Yoshitoshi (1839 - 1892)

Image Size - 13 1/4" x 28 3/8" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. A few small holes and losses, repaired. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
