Series; Five Poetic Immortals of the Pear-blossom Courtyard

Five Poetic Immortals of the Pear-blossom Courtyard - Lovely portrait from a series pairing beauties with the five female poets included among Japan's famous "Thirty-six Immortal Poets." The poet and calligrapher Fujiwara no Kinto selected the group in around 1011 as the best poets of Japan from the Asuka, Nara, and Heian eras. Each attractive design features an elegantly dressed beauty in a scene from daily life, with a yellow border of clouds across the top and two small insets with a verse by the poet and a small landscape view. A rarely seen Kunisada beauty series.
