Imperial Inspection of Military March at Fukiage, 1889

Comments - Handsome scene of a procession of samurai on horseback and on foot passing a reviewing stand where noblemen are gathered for an Imperial inspection of the troops. The warriors are dressed in full armor and battle helmets, accompanied by colorful banners and standards. The pavilion is lined with a screen depicting a dragon emerging from black clouds, with purple and white drapery overhead featuring the three hollyhock crest of the Tokugawa Clan. Wonderful color and detail in this handsome illustration, with subtle burnishing on the black horses and armor. Only the second time we've seen this Chikanobu triptych.

Artist - Chikanobu (1838 - 1912)

Image Size - 14" x 28 1/2" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three attached panels, backed with paper. Light lines where backing papers meet. Vertical folds. Slight separation at ends of folds, repaired. Slight soiling, a few creases and small marks. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
