Comments - Terrific design featuring portraits of the some of the rulers of Japan. Some of the rulers are shown in formal court dress, while others wear fine suits of armor. At lower right, a beauty wears a white tunic patterned with swirls over a suit of armor and red pants, a pole arm in hand. At bottom center, a young man with shaggy hair lifts a robe draped over his head with one hand, a sword in the other. Nicely detailed with touches of burnishing and metallic pigment that has oxidized to a dark tone. An interesting historic image. The first time we've come across this Yoshitoshi triptych.
