Series; Japanese Scenes on Tanazku, circa 1920s - 1930s
Japanese Scenes on Tanzaku - Tanzaku or "poem slip" prints are narrow, vertical format woodblocks with a printed verse or a space to write a poem, designed to fit on a wooden pillar or post. This traditional Japanese form dates back hundreds of years, and is still in use today. The series "Japanese Scenes on Tanazaku" features designs by Koho Shoda and Yoshimoto Gesso. Published by Hasegawa/Nishinomiya, these lovely shin-hanga images are beautifully printed with exquisite line work and attractive color. A great opportunity to collect a beautiful shin-hanga subject in a charming, traditional Japanese format.
