Beauties Gathering to Play Music

Comments - Charming scene of beauties gathering to play music on a summer evening. The woman in the center gestures for her guest at left to take a seat on the cushion offered by another woman at right. The guest holds a biwa or Japanese lute, while a koto rests on the floor at right. The figures are sets against a pink cloud scattered with confetti-like dots, with a scene above of people strolling along the short of Shinobazu Pond under a glowing full moon. A lovely design, beautifully detailed with embossing on the white kimono trim, burnishing on the hair and the black lacquer frame of the folding screen, and embossed wood grain on the body of the lute. The first time we've seen this attractive triptych.
