Original Kunisada II (1823 - 1880) Japanese Woodblock Print
Courtesans Upstairs at the Owari-ya, 1867

Comments - Fantastic design illustrating the upper story of the Owari-ya Teahouse in the Yoshiwara, with beauties enjoying their leisure time. Inside the room at left, a beauty writes a verse on a poem slip while her companion works on a folding fan. The courtesans at right chat together as a servant at far right tries to get their attention, kneeling beside a brazier with a tea kettle on it. An attractive depiction of life in the Yoshiwara, with a wonderfully detailed architectural setting and burnishing on the black kimono.

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 18 5/8" + margins as shown
