Oboshi Kuranosuke Kakemono, circa 1848 - Handsome kakemono or vertical diptych of Oboshi Kuranosuke, the leader of the famous 47 ronin, sitting on a folding stool with his tasseled command baton in hand. He looks over his shoulder with a tight-lipped frown, his brows slightly furrowed. He wears a brown kimono tucked into patterned pants over armor, and the traditional black and white dogtooth bordered robe associated with the ronin. The text panel above features the warriors inverted comma crest as a repeated motif. The first time we've seen this rare Toyokuni III kakemono design.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Two separate panels. Horizontal folds. Large tear at edge, holes and small losses, some repaired from the front. Toning, creasing, slight soiling and rubbing, slight paper remnants at sides from previous mounting. Please see photos for details.
