Priest Shiga Shonin and Royal Carriage - Beautiful triptych depicting a royal carriage passing through the countryside. A young boy leads the ox pulling the elegantly detailed vehicle as ladies-in-waiting walk alongside, their robes draped over their heads. A court beauty rides inside the cart, and at right, the elderly Priest Shiga Shonin bows respectfully as she passes. Additional courtiers bring of the rear of the procession. Cherry trees covered with delicate pink and white blossoms frame the scene, with a view of the ocean beyond. The metallic pigment used on the maple leaf pattern on the white kimono has oxidized to a dark tone. A lovely design with burnishing on the black lacquer wheels and delicate embossing on the white kimono trim. A very attractive image.
