A Fuji Arts Special Offer Auction
Beauty at Night, 1962 - Lovely shin-hanga portrait of a young woman on an evening stroll. She wears a light pinkish tan outer robe with an intricately detailed floral pattern in silver mica over the shoulders and down the front, carries a small purse, and wears a ring on one finger. She looks down with a pensive expression as a couple passes by in the background in shadow against the lighted windows of buildings along the street. A red lantern hangs at upper right, and willow branches frame the background. Embossed title in Japanese in bottom margin (not read). Dated Showa 37 (1962) in right margin. Not much is known about the female artist Jinbo Tomoyo. She studied with Ito Shinsui and Hirezaki Eiho, but only produced a few bijin-ga or beauty prints. An attractive design, detailed with additional silver mica on the purse and the ring.
