Series; Parody of the Backstage Dressing Room, 1864
Parody of the Backstage Dressing Room - Handsome kabuki double portrait from Kunichika's series depicting actors backstage. Each print features two figures in front of a large paper lantern decorated with writing and an actor's crest. A blue border runs across the top of the page, featuring small squares with crests and a large circular crest that matches the one on the lantern. The actors are informally dressed in cotton kimono, some holding fans or towels. The title cartouche takes the form of a book at upper right. An interesting series that is rarely seen.
