Kuniyoshi's Sixty-nine Post Stations of the
Fukaya: Yuriwaka Daijin, 1852 - Fantastic image of the warrior Yurikawa Daijin shooting an arrow with his enormous bow, much to the astonishment of two spectators, who tumble on the ground in surprise. After a long absence, Yurikawa was able to prove his identity to his wife by using the giant bow, as only he had strength to do so. He stands with his feet firmly spread apart, the rustic bow in one hand, having just released an arrow. He follows the shot with his eyes, looking off into the distance, his long hair blowing about his face. He wears a green brocade kimono over a suit of armor and gray hakama print hakama pants. Rugged mountains form a dramatic backdrop with birds wheeling about the darkening sky above. A circular inset at upper left shows travelers making their way along a road with a small shelter at the side and tall pine trees. A great design with beautiful bokashi shading.
