by Hiroshige II (1826 - 1869)
Comments - Charming aizuri-e print of a Java sparrow perched on a flowering camellia branch. Literally "blue printed picture," aizuri-e are woodblocks printed entirely or predominantly in shades of blue. The style became fashionable with the introduction of the pigment Prussian Blue to Japan in the late 1820s. Here, the beak and legs are accented with a reddish tone. An attractive kacho-e or birds and flowers print. The first time we've offered this Hiroshige II design.
