Pleasure Boat Outing

Comments - Lovely scene of members of the Meiji Imperial court enjoying an outing to view the cherry blossoms by pleasure boat. The Empress stands in the boat at right, fanning herself, accompanied by many ladies-in-waiting. At right, a boat with a phoenix head prow approaches carrying the Emperor and his attendants. Waves gently lap at the boats and small birds float on the water nearby. Pale pink and white blossoms frame the scene. A beautiful triptych of this classic spring activity, with fine detail and vibrant color. Includes embossing on the white kimono and burnishing on the black areas of the boat.
