by Yoshikazu (active circa 1850 - 1870)
Series; The Eight Virtues, 1856
Duty: Izumi Saburo Tadahira - Handsome image of the warrior Izumi Saburo Tadahira tying a white sash around his waist. He stares ahead with a determined expression, wearing a fine suit of armor and a white band around his head. His wife, Fujinoe, kneels at his side with a naginata in hand, ready to defend the fortress. Through the doorway behind them, a castle wall can be seen at left and the banners of approaching troops at center right. A great design from this rarely seen series, nicely composed and detailed.
