Series; Edo Customs of the Twelve Months
The Ninth Month: The Chrysanthemum Festival, 1889 - Lovely Chikanobu triptych depicting two women escorting a young nobleman to view the beautiful floral display during the annual Chrysanthemum Festival held in the ninth month. The boy wears a black kimono burnished with a subtle checked pattern, tucked into striped hakama pants, a sword at his side. An elderly man bows to the boy as passes by, the attendants leading him by the hand. Wonderful color in the gorgeous flowers and elegant flowers, with a fantastic chrysanthemum sculpture of Mt. Fuji dominating the sky above a lovely water feature. An attractive design from this rarely seen series, detailed with additional burnishing in the man's black coat and embossing in the white kimono trim.
