Cherry-blossom Viewing at Goten Hill, circa 1839 - 1842 - Handsome scene of people enjoying the cherry blossoms at Goten-yama or Goten Hill overlooking the harbor. Picnickers have spread blankets mats the hillside, while others stroll about the grounds, admiring the panoramic view of the rooftops below and ships dotting the water. A daimyo has hung tent walls from some of the trees to provide privacy, and vendors man tea stands at right. A great illustration of this popular spring activity, from a rarely seen series. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts has this image in its collection.
