Imperial Visit to the Third Domestic Industrial Exposition at Ueno, 1890

Comments - Terrific image of the Meiji Emperor members of the court arriving at the Third National Industrial Exposition held at Ueno Park in Tokyo in 1890. At left, a woman descends from a royal carriage as ladies-in-waiting gather around. In the center, the Emperor wears a military uniform with a sash across the chest and a cap with a feather atop it. Other officers and dignitaries accompany the group. Strings of colorful paper lanterns and flags from different nations hang over head, adding a festive air to the scene. A handsome illustration of a historic event, nicely detailed with burnishing on the black uniforms. The first time we've offered this design.

Artist - Utagawa Mosai (circa 1836 - 1887)

Image Size - 14 1/8" x 28" + margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels. Diagonal folds in left panel. Faint stain, slight creasing. Please see photos for details. Good overall.
