Fujikawa: Women Travelers, 1855 - Attractive image from a Tokaido series jointly designed by Hiroshige and Toyokuni III between 1854 - 1857. Hiroshige created the landscapes while Toyokuni III designed the large figures in the foreground. Here, a servant assists a traveling beauty by fixing her sandal. The beauty leans forward slightly, resting her hand gently atop the maid's back for balance. She wears a black lacquer hat tied under her chin with red cord and carries a walking stick. The landscape depicts a view of the village of Fujikawa, with houses and shops lining the road as it curves up the hillside, a large gray mountain looming on the horizon. A handsome image with shading in the grassy slopes at left.

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Slight paper remnants on reverse at top corners from previous mounting. A few small wormholes, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases and marks. Please see photos for details.
