Beauty Admiring a Chrysanthemum

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene of a beauty leaning forward to admire a white chrysanthemum, the petals rendered with embossed lines. She holds a string of prayer beads in her hand, and her hair is pulled back into a simple knot. On a fan-shaped inset above, a frightened woman stares over her shoulder with her mouth agape and her eyes wide. An unusual format, nicely detailed with fine line work in the hair and additional embossing on the white kimono collar.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 9 3/8"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Paper remnants on reverse at top corners from previous mounting. Slight thinning at corner, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few spots and creases. Please see photos for details.
