Comments - Terrific, dramatic subject depicting Taira no Shigemori and Minamoto no Yoshihira engaged in single combat outside the Taikenmon Gate of the Imperial Palace. Shigemori deflects Yoshihira's sword with his bow as arrows rain down around the pair. Yoshihira drove Shigemori back seven times before the gate, yet the Minamoto withdrew, despite the heroics of Yoshihira. Includes touches of burnishing on the armor. A fantastic image and a great choice for a collector interested in the samurai tradition.
