Mitsuuji and Beauty Crossing a Bridge, 1860 - Charming scene of Mitsuuji, the "Country Genji," and a beauty crossing a bridge or walkway between rooms of a mansion. The young man leads his companion by the hand, smiling as he gestures behind him. At right, a kneeling beauty holds either a child or a large doll in her arms, while the woman beside her carries the nobleman's sword. The walkway overlooks a large garden pond with several buildings scattered around the shore, and stepping stones across the water at upper left. An attractive design, detailed with a burnished geometric pattern on the black kimono.
