Comments - Dramatic, rather gory Yoshitoshi triptych depicting the Battle of Kawanakajima between the forces of Takeda Shingen and Uesugi Kenshin. In the center, a wounded warrior kneels against his fallen horse, leaning heavily against his spear as blood flows from his wounds and his lips turn blue, a sign of his impending death. Just before him, a samurai climbs the hill with an enemy's severed head speared atop his pole arm. At right, a warrior offers a bloodied comrade a drink of water from a dipper. Clouds of smoke from the battle drift across the scene, with a rugged mountain peak in the distance against the night sky. Beautifully composed with expressive figures and fine detail in the armor. The first time we've seen this Yoshitoshi design.

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Three separate panels, backed with paper. Small losses at corners, repaired. A few creases, staining at edges, slight rippling. Please see photos for details.
