Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as Takebe Genzo, 1861

Comments - Handsome kabuki double portrait featuring Kawarazaki Gonjuro I as Takebe Genzo in the play "Sugawara denju tenarai kagami." He tilts his head down with a glum frown, a few loose wisps of hair framing his face, the sleeve of his floral print kimono tied back with a dark green ribbon. The beauty beside him smiles coyly, looking up slyly out of the corners of her eyes. Nicely detailed with fine line work in the hair and soft bokashi shading in the night sky.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 14" x 9 1/2"

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Stitching holes at side, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases and spots. Please see photos for details.
