Battle of Shizugatake: Kato Toranosuke and Yamaji Shogen, 1897

Comments - Fantastic scene from the Battle of Shizugatake of the warriors Kato Toranosuke and Yamaji Shogen sliding down a steep mountainside locked in combat. The pair continues to grapple as they fall down the cliff, each gripping the other while trying to free himself. At upper right, a colorful helmet flies off through the air, leaving one samurai with his hair blowing in the wind. A waterfall rushes over the rocks at right, adding to the dramatic setting. A terrific Chikanobu design, rarely seen.
