Kunimasa (1773 - 1810) Japanese Woodblock Reprint
Nakamura Noshio II as Gotobei's Daughter, Tokujo

A Special 1938 Takamizawa Group - Founded in 1911, the Takamizawa Publisher of Tokyo has published some of the finest reprints of classic ukiyo-e designs. Drawing on the traditions and methods of the Edo era, the company produced reprints with the utmost care and great attention to detail, masterfully reproducing color, line work and even wood grain detail. Published in 1938, this handsome reprint group features designs by master artists such as Utamaro, Kiyonaga, Eishi, Hokusai, Hiroshige, Sharaku, and others. Each features a Takamizawa publisher seal on the  reverse. A great opportunity to acquire a high quality reprint of a famous Edo era subject.

Comments - Terrific kabuki portrait of Nakamura Noshio II Tokujo, the daughter of as Gotobei in the play "Kaeribana yuki no Yoshitsune." She carries a large wooden chest over her shoulder, a tie-dyed cloth wrapped protectively around her elegant hairstyle. She wears a checked outer robe over a rust colored kimono and a tie-dyed under robe. Nicely detailed with embossing to indicate the fold in the head scarf. Rarely seen in reprint.

Artist - Kunimasa (1773 - 1810)

Image Size - 15 1/8" x 9 3/4"+ margins as shown

Condition - This print with excellent color and detail as shown. Slight toning. Some prints have a few light creases at edges or a few small spots. Please see photos for details. Generally in good condition overall.
