View of Kasumigaseki in the Eastern Capital, 1847 - 1848 - Terrific view of Kasumigaseki in Edo, with three beauties and a young child strolling along the street. Magnificent daimyo's mansions line the road with pedestrians passing up and down the hill. The beauty in the center takes the hand of a small girl holding a doll, guiding her along with her hand resting gently on the child's back. Her two companions exchange smiles as they watch, each dressed in a fine kimono and wearing tall wooden geta sandals. The rooftops of Edo stretch out into the distance, with sails dotting the ocean beyond. The setting sun spreads a rosy glow along the horizon and flocks of geese are descending for the night. A lovely design with a fantastic detail and soft shading in the ground and sky. A great Hiroshige design.
