Nakamura Fukusuke I as Inuta Kobungo, 1857

Comments - Interesting kabuki scene from the play "Wakaki no Ume Satomi no Yatsufusa" featuring Nakamura Fukusuke I as Inuta Kobungo, one of the famous Eight Dog Warriors. He leans forward with an angry grimace, one foot on the shoulder of a boatman sprawling on the ground before him. His outer kimono is patterned with sparrows and bamboo, worn over a red sumo apron trimmed with fringe. Tall reeds frame a view of the water and night sky beyond. An expressive figure in a nicely detailed setting.

Artist - Toyokuni III/Kunisada (1786 - 1864)

Image Size - 13 1/2" x 9 3/8" + top margin as shown

Condition - This print with excellent detail as shown. Backed with paper. Small loss at edge, repaired. Slight toning and soiling, a few creases, slight rubbing at edges. Please see photos for details.
